Releasing Authority: Sheriff Chinn
On December 16, 2013, at approximately 3:30 p.m. Pratt County Sheriff’s Officers were dispatched to a rural residence in the southeast part of Pratt County to the report of a suicidal woman.
The woman notified her husband by phone and indicated she wanted to harm herself. He went home, she was armed with two handguns, she told him to leave and as he left he heard two shots fired.
Pratt County Sheriff’s Officers established a perimeter and continued to communicate for a short while with the suspect until she refused to talk anymore. Due to other weapons at the residence and her experience with weapons, the Kansas Bureau of Investigation was called and their S.W.A.T. team was activated. At approximately 9:45 p.m. the KBI S.W.A.T. team took her into custody without incident and she was transported by Pratt County Sheriff’s Officers to the Pratt Regional Medical Center for a mental evaluation. The case is under investigation by the Pratt County Sheriff’s Office.
The Kansas Highway Patrol, the Barber County Sheriff’s Office, and Pratt Emergency Medical Services also assisted with this incident.
No names are being released at this time.
