 Max Barrett, Undersheriff

  

The Pratt County Sheriff’s DETECTIVE is a non-uniformed full time position assigned to investigate and conduct follow-up investigations of crimes committed within Pratt County.  Duties include the investigation of all major felony crimes involving Person and Property, Narcotics/Drug Violations, Financial Crimes, Computer Fraud/Solicitation, Death Investigations and Violent Crimes.

 

Max Barrett began his law enforcement career in 1988 with the Thomas County Sheriff’s Office in Colby, Kansas. He then served with Hoxie Police Department where he attended and graduated the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center as the Class President of the 108th Basic.  Max then began working for the Russell County Sheriff’s Office in 1989 where he became the Range master and Training officer for that department. In 1997 he transferred to the Ellsworth County Sheriff’s Office becoming the DARE officer, Training officer and Range master.  He returned to the Russell County as the Undersheriff in 1999 and has served in that capacity until he retired in October 2016.  Max has an Associates of Applied Science degree in Criminal Justice from Barton County Community College and Bachelors in Organizational Management and Leadership from Friends University.  Max served as a member of the Security Team Police at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta working in the Soccer, Tennis and numerous other venues.  Max has several awards including a Kansas Association of Chiefs of Police Gold award for Valor for an adversarial confrontation.  Max attended the 17th session of Kansas FBI LEEDS. Max was selected to the FBINA session 238th in 2009 and attended that session in July through September of 2009.  Max came to Pratt County Sheriff’s Office as the Detective in November 2015.
